Dr. Davidé ("Dave") Augeri is Founder, CEO, and Principal Conservation Scientist for Biodiversity Unlimited Research and Consulting Group. Please feel free to contact Dr. Augeri for his C.V. He provides more than 36 years of expertise and experience in research, consulting, teaching, capacity-building and multi-stakeholder collaboration in biodiversity, endangered species and ecosystem science, conservation, policy, management, sustainability, strategic planning, and nonprofit, charity, and business advising and leadership, and other areas. Dr. Augeri holds a Ph.D. in Conservation Biology, Biodiversity, and Wildlife Ecology from the University of Cambridge, a M.Sc. in Ecology and Forest Sciences from Colorado State University, and an M.A. in Nongovernmental Organization Management and Leadership from Johns Hopkins University (along with additional Masters work in Natural Resource and Wildlife Conservation, Policy, and Law at Yale University), and a B.A. in Biology and Geology from Colby College. Dr. Augeri is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the College of Environment and Life Sciences at the University of Rhode Island, Research Associate with the Craighead Institute, Associate Editor and Editorial Board Member of the British Ecological Society, and Expert Advisor for the Quick Response Fund for Nature, Preventing Extinction Fund, and National Geographic Society grants.
Dr. Augeri provides expert consulting, teaching, and capacity-building in conservation science; biodiversity and threatened species biogeographic ecology and dynamics; biodiversity assessments, monitoring, offsetting, and loss mitigation; anthropogenic impacts (e.g., climate change, habitat and forest loss, fragmentation, etc) on biodiversity, endangered species, critical habitat, and ecosystem functions and services; human-wildlife conflict mitigation; strategic planning; sustainability planning and ESG advising; non-profit and charity leadership, management and development; environmental impact, proximate and systemic risk and threat assessments; strategic planning; conservation and management plans; wildlife and plant surveys and monitoring; landscape planning; High Conservation Value (HCV), buffer zone, Key Biodiversity Area, and protected area designs and planning; project design and management; data analysis; technical and scientific reviews, editing and reports; education and outreach; training and capacity-building; media and campaigns; and scientific and nature conservation tourism, among other services. Dr. Augeri’s expertise also includes tailoring and innovating new methods for clients and specialized situations for studying, tracking, inventorying, and monitoring biodiversity and rare and threatened species. He has conducted 35 years of terrestrial and marine research and conservation work on six continents in most major ecosystems on Earth from the Tropics to the Arctic on a diverse array of issues and species. These range from ecosystem dynamics, climate change, and habitat fragmentation to endangered species and biodiversity research and assessments, natural and anthropogenic disturbances, human-wildlife conflicts, sustainability, risk and threat assessments, biodiversity offsets and impact mitigation, and many other issues related to the conservation, policy, management, and sustainability of biodiversity and threatened fauna and flora.
Dr. Augeri has a variety of scientific and lay publications (https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=WogLbUcAAAAJ) and is/has been a Senior Expert, Advisor, and/or consultant to the United Nations, USAID, the World Bank, the Global Environmental Facility, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the World Commission on Protected Areas, IUCN World Heritage Site Advisory Panel, the IUCN-WCPA Connectivity Conservation Network, IUCN Biodiversity Network, IUCN Climate Change Network, the Species Survival Commission (SSC), the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), and many others. He has also served as a Senior Expert and Advisor to United States, Canadian, Royal Bhutanese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Moroccan, Gabonese, Seychelles and other nations’ National Parks, Forests, and Environment agencies, as well as to WWF, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), the Royal Society for Nature Conservation, UNESCO, and other entities. Dr. Augeri is also a National Geographic Society Explorer, V.I.P. and Research Fellow and is a member of and Senior Expert and Advisor to several IUCN/SSC Species Specialist and Expert Groups, the International Bear Association, and others and has been a Royal Society of London, Smithsonian Institute, and Wildlife Conservation Society Research Fellow and/or consultant. Dr. Augeri is a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists, has been a naturalist, educator, photographer, and wildlife and travel guide throughout the world for more than 30 years, and has also served as a Wilderness Instructor, Educator, and Counselor for troubled and adjudicated youth.
