Dr. Sonam Wangyel Wang

OUR CONSULTANTS

         Dr. Sonam Wang is an expert in Conservation Science with special focus on the fundamentals of the human-environment interface and the impact of climate change on this relationship. Dr. Wang is a doctoral graduate of Cornell University in Natural Resource Policy and a Master of Science in Natural Resource Policy and Management. In addition, he also holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University and BSc (hons) in Forestry from University of Wales, Bangor, UK. Dr. Wang’s professional focus is centered on the dynamics of the human-nature interface (especially biodiversity, water, and food security nexus), natural resource policy, climate change adaptation, and poverty. 

 

       Dr. Wang has been the Director of Bhutan's Nature Conservation Division, Chief of Bhutan’s National Park Service, Director of Bhutan’s Royal Education Council, and has been a Research associate at University of Montana and the Smithsonian Institution. He has also worked as a consultant to governments, NGOs and international agencies on issues ranging from climate change adaptation, poverty, gender, and biodiversity to project developments. Dr. Wang has also founded various firms including as CEO of the Bhutan Institute for Himalayan Studies and Wang Research and Consultancy. He was also a candidate for Member of Parliament of Bhutan from the historic Punakha Constituency, Bhutan.
